The CCHS collects information on health status, health care use and determinants of health. It relies upon a large sample of respondents and is designed to provide reliable estimates at the regional level. In 2007, changes were made to the survey design to improve its effectiveness and flexibility. Since then, data collection occurs every year rather than every two years as was the case prior to 2007.
Two year data files
Every two years, a file combining the most recent two years is released. The two-year data file includes all respondents and the questions that were in the survey over the two year reference period. Unless otherwise specified, it is the question component from the common annual and two-year content and selected optional content over the two year period. The one-year common content and optional content selected for one year only are not available in the two-year data file.
The rapid response component is offered to organizations interested in national estimates on an emerging or specific issue related to the population's health. Provincial estimates may also be yielded from a rapid response however they may be of limited quality.
