Call for proposals -1991 Census Mortality Cancer Cohort (Pilot Project)

Statistics Canada is calling for proposals to: i) develop, test and evaluate confidentiality vetting rules that will ensure data confidentiality, ii) improve documentation, iii) and assess data quality to support the introduction of the 1991 Canadian Census Cohort: mortality & cancer follow-up database in the RDCs. Proposals should be submitted by August 31, 2012 to Donna Dosman, Chief Research Data Centre Program.

Canadian Cancer Registry : data now available

We are glad to announce that the pilot project for the Canadian Cancer Registry Data is complete and that these data are now available for new research projects in the RDCs. More information is available on the Statistics Canada website.

Childhood Obesity Prevention: What’s the Evidence?

Health Evidence will be hosting a 90 minute webinar on obesity prevention interventions in children, presenting key messages, and implications for practice on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 1:00 pm EST. Maureen Dobbins, Scientific Director of Health Evidence, will be leading the webinar, which will include an interactive discussion. Vocational Well-Being and Childhood Disability Onset

This third issue of the CRDCN Research Highlight series summarizes research findings on life satisfaction and perceived workplace discrimination among people with disability according to whether disability occurred in childhood or adulthood. Use of primary health care services among Canadian youth

This second issue the CRDCN Research Highlight summarizes research findings on the use of primary health care services by adolescents and young adults based on the 2005 Canadian Community Health Survey. National Conference on Health Statistics: call for poster abstract

The Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) invite students and researchers to submit a poster presentation at the National Conference on Health Statistics. Cochrane Canada 2012 Symposium

The 10th annual symposium of Cochrane Canada will be held in Winnipeg on May 9 and 10, 2012. The theme of the Symposium is Health Evidence for ALL. Abstracts for oral presentation, posters and workshops can now be submitted on the following topics: Engaging with the Evidence; ensuring equity in the evidence; what works in evidence production and use for all? Public Health in Canada: Creating and Sustaining Healthy Environments

To celebrate the inauguration of a new RDC branch in Yellowknife, the first to be established north of 60º and outside campus, the Institute for Circumpolar Health Research organizes an international conference on circumpolar health on October 31, 2011.

Canadian Health Measures Survey

This is the first survey to take direct physical measurements from a national sample of Canadians. With these data, researchers can link lifestyle, nutrition and other aspects of life to physical features, such as blood pressure, bodyweight and oral health.

Three of the four waves are now available in the RDCs.
