Canada Year Book Historical Collection
Statistics Canada launched another excellent product a couple of weeks ago: the Canada Year Book Historical collection. It gives free access to a wealth of historical data on Canada’s population from 1867-1967 (1887-1967 in French). You can find out the number of Albanian-speaking immigrants who arrived in Canada in 1939, or the number of manufacturing bankruptcies in 1965, or compare average earnings of farmers and miners in 1901. Almost anything, in fact.
Every page of every Canada Year Book has been digitalized - historical text, more than 100 photos and nearly 50 maps dating back to 1868, over 75 charts and 1,200 tables converted to HTML. The fully-searchable module includes details on the lives and work of politicians, industrialists, scientists, agriculturalists and others who have shaped Canada, multimedia extras, and a teacher’s tool box so comprehensive that it will undoubtedly produce a boom in future cohorts of RDC users.
